 W2TN Host 2nd Annual “Picnic in the Park” June 9

McDonough – Welcome 2 the Neighborhood, LLC (W2TN), Henry County’s premier welcome service for new residents and businesses, will hosts its second annual “Picnic in the Park,” a free live lunchtime concert on the historic downtown McDonough Square Thursday, June 9, 2005, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m

Expected to draw in hundreds of new and existing residents, visitors and local businesses, the event will include food, games and musical entertainment by Atlanta singer/songwriter Chris Cauley and the Christian band Prodigal.  The event is being sponsored by The Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Chick Fil-A at Kroger in McDonough, Scarlett’s Retreat Day Spa, UPS, Davenport Printing, J Hunt Fine Foods Market, Creative Classics, CMT Interiors, Cozi Nook Catering, and Arts & Expressions Magazine.  During the picnic, sponsors will offer following giveaways:

·        15-minute massages by Scarlett’s Retreat Spa

·        Free drinks from The Coca-Cola Bottling Company

·        Free lunches for the first 50 attendees from Chick Fil-A

·        Free food basket and grilling items from J Hunt & Co.

A portion of the proceeds will go towards a scholarship fund for Georgia State University’s Cecil B. Day Hospitality undergraduate program.

“I hope people will come out and take part of the great charm the city of McDonough has to offer,” said Welcome 2 the Neighborhood Chief Executive Officer Lanelle R. Henderson.  “Coming from a big city like New York, you don’t get to experience small town feel with a cozy ambience.  I hope that people recognize my efforts to bring people of all ages and background together and enjoy some fun and relaxation in a non-traditional way.”

Since she founded W2TN in 2003, Henderson has become an integral part of preserving Henry county’s charm which is currently being challenged by its rapid growth.  According to census figures, Henry County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the nation.

A native of the Bronx, Henderson decided to host this event for area residents and businesses after the loving reception she received when she and her son moved to McDonough nearly two years ago.  “When I first came to McDonough the people were very welcoming,” said Henderson.  “This town is a true example of southern hospitality at its finest.”
